As a technical sub-discipline of drive technology, linear transfer technology is concerned with the challenge of conducting translational motion of mechanical components while keeping friction as low as possible. A linear system of this kind should be able to withstand linear forces as much as possible without being deformed.
Linear systems from norelem are used in semiconductor manufacturing, robotics, the packaging industry and even in medical technology. But the primary field of application is certainly factory automation. Linear systems ensure solutions with customised specifications for positioning, manipulating, lifting or rotating production elements. The systems are designed and assembled according to the customer's specific field of application.

There are two main types of linear guide (often called a linear guide system):
Slide guides are linear guides in which the individual linear guide elements are not separated by rolling elements. These linear guide systems include the dovetail slide from norelem, which prevents a guide element from lifting during rotational movements.
Roller guides are based on a rotational mechanism, whereby roller guides such as rollers or ball bearings are rotated between two moving elements. A rolling element retainer (such as a roller chain) keeps the rolling element in control and ensures that the guide runs as quietly as possible. Roller guides include profile guide rails and linear ball bearings.
As a general rule, the shape and position accuracy of a guide are later the ultimate parameters when it comes to the quality of the guide.
